2018 SYSBS-Ivey International Business Case Competition
FBE UG Year 2 or above students (in the academic year of 2018-19) are cordially invited to participate in the 2018 SYSBS-Ivey International Business Case Competition jointly organized by Sun Yat-Sen Business School in Guangzhou, China and Ivey Business School of Western University in Canada.
About the Competition [eDM]
This inaugural event, which will be held from November 9 - 11, 2018 at Sun Yat-Sen Business School aims to attract and gather students and faculty from around the globe for a thought-provoking weekend with the following objectives:
- to participate in an international case competition to enhance the business acumen, and to apply their critical thinking, analytical communication, and team work skills;
- to provide a forum where students can experience real world business problems through case preparations and learn from the diverse perspectives of peer contestants; and
- to encourage meaningful relationships between students and faculty of business schools around the world.

Target Participants
Current undergraduate and postgraduate students from all universities.
Team Formation
Each team should consist of FOUR members from the same university. Students from all majors are welcome to participate but at least ONE team member must come from the business faculty and at least TWO team members are undergraduate students.
Competition Schedule
Registration Deadline: | September 7, 2018 (11pm) |
Case Release: | September 10, 2018 |
Case Report Submission: | September 21, 2018 (5pm) *The top TEN teams will advance to the semi-finals. |
Semi-finals (in Guangzhou): | November 10, 2018 * The top FOUR teams will advance to the final competition. |
Final Competition (in Guangzhou): | November 11, 2018 |
Competition Expenses
There is no registration fee for all participating teams.
For teams that can progress to the semi-finals/final competition, the organizers will cover hotel accommodation and most meals in Guangzhou during the competition period. However, team members are expected to bear their own travelling expenses between Hong Kong and Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, as well as other personal expenses.
Application Method
Interested students please form into teams and register online here. To ensure a balanced representation of participants, only the FIRST 3 registered teams from each university could enter the competition.
Remarks:
(1) In case if any teams enter the semi-finals/final competition to be held in Guangzhou from November 9 – 11, 2018, they need to be responsible for their own safety while outside Hong Kong, bear all expenses related to the trip (including visa application, if needed) as well as arrange and pay for their own insurance which covers the whole period of stay in Guangzhou. Our Faculty will not be responsible for any expenses incurred in the trip.
(2) Since teams need to arrive Guangzhou on November 9, 2018, students are required to apply for Leave of Absence through the Faculty Office before departing to Guangzhou.
(3) The data collected through the online registration is solely administered by the organizers. The Faculty shall not be held liable in the case that disputes, loss or any other situations arise.
