BUSI1807 Business Consulting Practicum

• This is a 6-credit experiential learning course (a free-elective course for students in the HKU Business School) in coming summer 2024.

• We aim to offer students the hands-on experience of working with business clients in solving “real-life” problems related to their studies. Students who have successfully completed the practicum will gain valuable business experience to complement their academic learning and enhance their employability.

• Students will participate as teams of independent consultants, under the guidance of the Course Coordinator, Consultant-in-Residence, Professional Mentors and Student Mentors to work on real-life projects such as feasibility studies, business plans, market research, branding strategies, accounting and information systems design and implementation, etc.

• Business clients will be mostly, if not all, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and social enterprises in Hong Kong. Students will interact with the executives or owners of these enterprises as a team providing a free business consulting service to them.     

Application Procedures

• The application is on a rolling basis until the vacancies are all filled up.
• The application will be in form of individual basis.  Team formation will be administered by the Faculty and announced in due course.

Before commencing the practicum, students will be offered training to learn different business consulting skills to cope with the assigned challenging real-life business projects.	Throughout the practicum, students will be guided and supervised by the Course Coordinator, Professional Mentors, and Student Mentors, as well as the Consultant-in-Residence.
Students will provide professional consulting advice to the SME by means of business consulting reports, presentations, and regular meetings during a 4-week practicum.	To wrap up the practicum, students will share their experience and receive feedback from the Business Clients, Course Coordinator, Professional Mentors, Student Mentors, and Consultant-in-Residence for continuous improvement.
