Programme Introduction : BFin(AMPB)
The Bachelor of Finance in Asset Management and Private Banking [BFin(AMPB)] programme aims to prepare students to enter the rapidly growing fields of asset management and private banking in Hong Kong and the Asia Pacific. Other than providing foundation curriculum in finance, economics and investment, the Programme offers courses covering the current industry trends and topics that are key to maintaining Hong Kong as an international financial centre as well as a regional wealth management centre. Our curriculum includes disciplinary courses covering Compliance and Financial Regulations, Private Banking and Wealth Management, Sustainability and ESG, Family Office, Multi-Asset Strategy, Venture Capital & Private Equity and Digital Assets. A number of the industry related courses are taught by teachers with solid experience in the AMPB industry and the approach of the learning is through practical cases and experience sharing. The Programme also offers a variety of enrichment activities relevant to the studies and there are frequent networking activities with market practitioners.
What is Asset Management and Private Banking (AMPB)?
Asset management is the management of money for institutions, corporates, families and individuals in different asset classes, such as equities, fixed income and alternative investments. Private banking is the provision of advice and services, including investment, credit, trusts, etc. according to the specific needs of High Net-Worth Individual (HNWI) clients and families.

The four-year curriculum provides students with foundation courses to build on knowledge and exposure to the asset management and private banking industry and more generally to investments and finance. We place a strong emphasis on understanding the investment market including courses on asset classes and investment strategies. Students are also required to understand the industry, the regulatory framework and the trends in the industry including ESG and Family Office. | "Connectivity in Finance" is an enriching program linking HKU Business School students with industry through firm visits, talks, and trade simulations. Objectives include imparting fundamental business and financial knowledge, fostering industry connections for enhanced career confidence. | The BFin(AMPB) programme afford students the chance to engage and learn from experienced senior practitioners within the industry. By interacting with these industry leaders, students will gain invaluable insights and practical knowledge firsthand. |

The Programme is well connected to the industry and is keen in searching opportunities for students in developing their career interests. The Programme also works with corporations who support us in internship offerings. Students are encouraged to attend CV consulting and interview preparation session individually or in groups with the programme director, adjunct teachers and industry mentors. Our students’ internship and graduate jobs cover a wide spectrum of the financial sector including but not limited to private banking, asset management, corporate/commercial banking, wealth management, investment banking, insurance and consulting. | The Coffee Chat programme pairs students in small groups of 2 or 3 with industry practitioners for relaxed, insightful discussions. The primary goal is to hear and be inspired by the guest mentor's professional journey and experiences. | As part of the development, students are encouraged to join case competitions. The Programme offers opportunities for participating team to be guided by a guest mentor, typically an industry practitioner who may guide them through the entire process. The Programme encourages students to join in particular the Polymer Intervarsity ESG Case Challenge, the Family Office Association Hong Kong (FOAHK), the HKSI Institute Case Competition, the HSBC Global Private Banking Case Challenge and the J.P. Morgan Private Bank Challenge, which are highly related to our theme of asset management and private banking. |
