“The Deloitte Tax Championship has been a transformative experience for me. Each round pushed us beyond our comfort zones, especially as we tackled complex issues like global tax structuring, transfer pricing, and cross-border compliance for a rapidly expanding Chinese NEV company. It was both challenging and rewarding to analyse real-world tax problems and develop strategic solutions together with my talented teammates.
What stood out to me most was the spirit of teamwork and the diversity of perspectives each member brought to the table. Through countless discussions, late-night preparations, and brainstorming sessions, I learned the power of collaboration and resilience. I am truly grateful for the invaluable support from our professors, faculty advisors, and programme managers, who guided and encouraged us throughout this journey. This experience has deepened my passion for tax and inspired me to keep learning and growing in the field.”

“The Deloitte Tax Championship was more than a test of technical knowledge; it mirrored real-world tax consulting engagements where we had to analyse complex tax regulations, develop strategic tax planning hypotheses, and present our recommendations to seasoned industry professionals. This experience honed my critical thinking in interpreting multi-jurisdictional tax frameworks, sharpened my communication skills for explaining intricate tax concepts clearly, and reinforced the importance of collaborative problem-solving under tight deadlines. I learned that success in tax consulting is grounded in mutual trust, open collaboration, and a proactive approach to incorporating constructive feedback. This journey not only deepened my technical expertise in tax planning and compliance but also strengthened my belief in the power of teamwork and continuous professional development.”

“Our journey through the Deloitte Tax Championship was a profound learning experience. We delved into the tax challenges of global expansion 3.0, from M&A to structural overhauls, learning how to optimise a group’s global footprint not for tax avoidance, but for maximizing after-tax profits. We also explored complex issues like IP ownership, tariff, WHT and multinational governance, recognising and applying that the goal for Chinese companies going global is shared prosperity.
One of my biggest gains was the significant improvement in my teamwork and collaborative skills. This project honed our ability to work synergistically over five intensive months, which was fundamental to our success. My sincere thanks to my three amazing teammates, our faculty advisors, Prof. Christina Ng and Mr. Allan Lee, and staffs from the Faculty Office.”

“The past months have been an incredible learning journey! The semifinal and final rounds challenged us with a Chinese NEV(New Energy Vehicle) giant’s global expansion, demanding solutions for its equity purchase structures, core IP asset transfer, and entity structuring under the GloBE Pillar 2 framework. The case fused advanced transfer pricing with treaty and many other tax implications, like WHT, VAT, and tariffs.
This journey forged in me a profound belief that success is built on a foundation of mutual trust and relentless collaboration. As the team coordinator, I witnessed this firsthand and would like to express my deepest gratitude to my teammates and our university’s professors, faculty advisors, and programme managers, whose unwavering guidance supported us in making our dreams come true!”
