CGMA Global Business Challenge 2026 – Hong Kong Region Final (Champion, Second Runner-up, Future Business Leader Award)

We are thrilled to announce that our students have won Champion, 2nd Runner-up, and Future Business Leader Award at the Hong Kong Regional Final of the CGMA Global Business Challenge 2026!

Organised by Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the competition brings together top student teams from across the region to tackle an actual case scenario under the CIMA professional qualification. Working in teams of four, participants are required to analyse a comprehensive case, develop innovative strategies, and present their solutions to the judging panel. Teams are evaluated on the rigour of their analysis, commercial judgement, communication skills, and their ability to turn insights into actionable recommendations.

Our students excelled at the Hong Kong Region Final with outstanding analytical skills and strong teamwork. The Champion team will represent Hong Kong at the North Asia Final on May 30, 2026.

Congratulations to our students on this remarkable achievement!

Champion (Team Archipelago Ventures)

“The part of the competition that taught me the most was, without question, the presentation itself. Twelve minutes sounds generous until you actually try to compress weeks of analysis into a deck that flows, lands, and survives a panel of judges who have read everything you’ve written. We rehearsed relentlessly, refining transitions, tightening phrasing, cutting slides we loved because they slowed the narrative and even then, every run-through revealed something new. Standing in front of the judges in the regional final and delivering it live was a completely different experience again: the room, the pacing, the eye contact, the small adjustments you make in real time when you sense a point isn’t landing. I came away with a much deeper respect for presentation as a craft in its own right, and a conviction that no amount of strong analysis can rescue a weak delivery.”

“The most rewarding part of the competition for me was the discussion and brainstorming sessions within our team. Some of our best ideas didn’t come from any single person. They emerged from hours of arguing, sketching on whiteboards, and challenging each other’s assumptions until something genuinely sharp surfaced. I found that the quality of our final recommendation was almost a direct function of how willing we were to disagree productively in those early sessions. Learning to push back without shutting others down, and to defend an idea while still being open to abandoning it, was a real skill to build. Beyond the case itself, those brainstorms were where I felt I learnt the most, not just about strategy, but about how good thinking actually happens when you’re working with people you trust.”

(by Mr. Handojo Matthew Christopher)

“Competing in the CGMA Global Business Challenge was a milestone for me personally, as it was my first time joining a case competition of this level, and the experience exceeded every expectation. Working through the business challenges of a company from a strategic and financial perspective pushed me to think across disciplines simultaneously, where a single decision touched business model design, governance, working capital, and financial reporting all at once. The competition demanded not just technical knowledge but the ability to form clear recommendations under pressure and defend them with conviction, a kind of applied thinking that no classroom setting can fully replicate. Reaching the North Asia finals representing HKU is something I’m genuinely proud of.”

Second Runner-up (Team Synergy Solutions)

“This was a landmark moment for me, as it marked the first time I ever presented in a case competition.  I learned how to structure presentations in a storytelling way with clear deck design and smooth transitions. Truly grateful for the invaluable guidance of our team coach, Prof. Winnie Leung.”

(by Miss Cheng Lok Yee Tiffany)

“I am truly grateful to have won the second runner-up prize in the CGMA Global Business Challenge 2026. This competition not only challenged me to think critically, but also helped me improve my decision-making, time management, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

One of the most valuable lessons I gained was learning how to organize information quickly and turn complex ideas into a clear and convincing strategy. I also realized the importance of dividing tasks efficiently and adapting when new challenges arose during the process.

Beyond the technical side, this experience strengthened my communication and collaboration skills. Working with teammates from different perspectives taught me how to listen, contribute, and support each other toward a common goal. Overall, this competition was a rewarding experience that helped me grow both personally and professionally.

Special thanks to our coach, Prof. Winnie Leung, for her invaluable guidance, and to my teammates for their unwavering support.”

(by Miss Lee Wing Kei Crystal)

“This competition was truly memorable. There were moments of doubt: handling unfamiliar accounting topics, connecting four tasks into a cohesive story, and delivering our presentation in an engaging and clear way. Fortunately, I had amazing teammates by my side. We discussed strategies, polished the deck, and rehearsed late into the night, encouraging one another and believing that we would figure it out together. Throughout this competition, I gained valuable skills in strategic case analysis, teamwork, and professional presentation. Huge thanks to our coach, Prof. Winnie Leung, and my incredible teammates.”

(by Miss Poon Lok Chun Katrina)

“I am truly grateful to have won the second runner-up prize in the CGMA Global Business Challenge 2026. This competition gave me valuable hands-on experience in management accounting. Our team worked together to solve a real-life business challenge under intense time pressure.

Beyond technical knowledge, I gained confidence in public speaking by learning essential presentation skills such as tone control and body gestures. Although the workload and pressure were immense, and there were moments I felt like giving up, the encouragement of my groupmates kept me going. I worked hard and came to believe that nothing is impossible.

This experience has not only strengthened my resilience and teamwork skills but also proved that great challenges can lead to even greater growth.”
