Cisco Global Problem Solver Challenge 2019

FBE UG Students are cordially invited to participate in the Cisco Global Problem Solver Challenge 2019 (https://cisco.innovationchallenge.com).

Highlights of the Competition
The Cisco Global Problem Solver Challenge aims to recognize new business ideas that leverage technology for social impact from student entrepreneurs around the world. The Challenge is open to students and recent alumni from worldwide college or university.

Individual or team participants should submit initial proposal with innovative technology solution which have positive social, environmental or economic impact. Up to 50 semi-finalists selected by judges, from the industry and subject-matter experts within and outside of Cisco, will be invited to submit a more detailed proposal by March 29, 2019. Judges will then evaluate all semi-final’s submissions and select up to 15 finalists. Up to 9 winners will be selected for the Challenge in the last round. Three Round of selection will be judged based on the following criteria:

  1. Innovative Internet of Things (IoT) or digital technology aspect of solution (33%)
    • ​​How innovative is the solution in its use of new or existing technology to solve a local or global problem? Are there other solutions available and if so, how does this differentiate from them?
  2. Feasibility (24%)
    • How feasible is the solution to put into practice? Does the solution make sense financially? Will the solution be sustainable over the long term?
  3. Impact (33%)
    • What is the scale of potential social impact? How broad is the impact? How many people will your solution reach? How significant is the impact?
  4. Clarity (10%)
    • How well do you articulate your solution and the potential impact it will have on society?

Finalists’ solution will publish online for public voting from April 29 – May 17, 2019. Solution received the highest number of votes will receive the People’s Choice Award.

10 winning teams will receive USD300,000 to help accelerate the adoption of breakthrough technology, products, and services that drive economic development and/or solve social or environmental problems.

Grand Prize of $100,000 USD X 1
Second Place Prize of $75,000 USD X 1
Third Place Prizes of $25,000 USD X 3
Fourth Place Prizes of $10,000 USD X 4
People’s Choice Award of $10,000 USD X 1

Eligibility

  1. Individuals who currently enrolled as students or have received a degree (undergraduate or graduate) after March 1, 2017
  2. Teams of up to 5 individuals, with at least half of the team’s members who currently enrolled as students or have received a degree (undergraduate or graduate) after March 1, 2017
  3. Legal business entities, with at least 25% owned by current students or recent graduates

How to join

  1. Register HERE as individual or team participants
  2. Complete an online questionnaire defining the problem you are solving and explaining the solution, submit a 90-second pitch video, and upload required documents as initial submission on or before January 11, 2019 (1700 Pacific Time).
  3. Eligible solutions, including technologies, products or services, must Incorporate Internet of Things (IoT) or digital technologies which have a positive social, environmental or economic impact (e.g. health, education, accessibility, critical human needs (food, water, disaster response/recovery, safety, etc.)
