2026 Hong Kong Web3 Ideathon: AI, FinTech, and Financial Literacy
To All UG Students,
The 2026 Hong Kong Web3 Ideathon: AI, FinTech, and Financial Literacy is now open for applications.
The competition invites students to explore and pitch innovative Web3 ideas and applications in the world of blockchain and artificial intelligence technologies. It consists of three tracks: Developing FinTech Solutions for Personal Spending and Savings, Enhancing Financial Knowledge in Investment and Insurance, and Safeguarding Against Financial Scams and Frauds.
Interested students should form a team of 2 to 4 members, and the team leader should register via https://web3ideathon.hkust.edu.hk/ and submit the proposal by January 11, 2026.

Dear Students,
The evolution of Web3 and AI is driving innovation within the financial sector and transforming our society at large. As a leading international financial center, Hong Kong consistently remains at the forefront of FinTech advancement. Fintech is crucial to Hong Kong’s sustainable growth, making it imperative to empower all with an understanding of its development, equip them with essential knowledge and skills, and foster a culture of innovation.
Building on the success of the 2025 Hong Kong Web3 Ideathon, the 2026 Hong Kong Web3 Ideathon: AI, FinTech, and Financial Literacy provides a unique opportunity for tertiary students across Hong Kong to display their innovative ideas, technical knowledge, and business visions while exploring the transformative potential of Web3 and AI. Students can team up with fellow innovators and pitch impactful projects to enrich our digital landscape in Hong Kong.
What are the three tracks?
Developing FinTech Solutions for Personal Spending and Savings
Help people improve personal decisions on spending and savings.
Enhancing Financial Knowledge in Investment and Insurance
Help people make better choices in investment and insurance.
Safeguarding Against Financial Scams and Frauds
Keep people safe from financial scams and fraud in the digital world.
As tertiary students in this vibrant city, you have the chance to spearhead innovation that resonates both locally and globally. Team up with fellow innovators, challenge conventional thinking, and bring your creative ideas to life!
What’s in it for you?
Attractive Cash Prizes: HK$30,000 for first place, HK$20,000 for second, HK$10,000 for third, and six honourable mentions of HK$5,000 each.
Funding Opportunity: Top teams could receive a fast track to the interview stage for Cyberport’s entrepreneurship programmes.
