INTRODUCTION

The Citibank University Banking Course, which is taught by seasoned bankers from Citi, is designed to provide students with an inclusive understanding of banking operations and practices in today’s world. Through a comprehensive series of structured classroom lectures and interactive discussions, the programme offers an invaluable opportunity for students to gain insights into and essential skills required for the fast-changing banking industry.

OBJECTIVES

  •  To provide students with a comprehensive understanding of modern banking operations and practices
  • To provide an opportunity for students to gain financial knowledge and experiences shared by seasoned bankers

PROGRAMME DETAILS

Course Schedule: January 2016 - April 2016

Course description

Jointly organized by Citibank and the University of Hong Kong, the Citibank University Banking Course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of modern banking operations and practices. Through a comprehensive series of structured classroom lectures and interactive discussions with seasoned bankers from Citibank, the programme also offers a valuable opportunity for students to gain insights and essential skill sets required in today's real banking world, which are also important for future career development of the students.

This programme will include evening lectures by and discussion with seasoned bankers from Citibank, case studies and branch visit. The course provides a comprehensive overview of today’s banking industry. Modules include:

  • Introduction to Consumer, Commercial, Corporate and Investment Banking
  • Branch Banking & Operations
  • Wealth Management Products and Advisory Services
  • Credit Cards
  • Secured and Unsecured Lending
  • Insurance
  • Digital Banking
  • Bank Marketing and Branding
  • Treasury Cycle
  • Risk Management
  • Fund Administration and Asset Servicing
  • Treasury and Trade Solutions
  • Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Careers in Banking

 

Dress Code

Smart casual, no jeans and slippers.

 

Basis of Assessment

In this course, the assessment will be based on attendance, class participation, a mid-term assessment and a final presentation.

 

Recognition

Certificate of Completion
Student achieving 80% attendance rate (including all lectures, visits, assessments, presentations and the two ceremonies) will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. Student who does not achieve 80% attendance rate will fail automatically and will not be given the Certificate of Completion.

Internship Opportunity
Students participating actively in lectures, demonstrating thoughtfulness and enthusiasm during group discussions, and performing consistently well during the whole course will be awarded internship opportunities with Citi.

 

Eligibility

Participants of the programme must be:

  • FBE non-first and non-final year students
  • Non-FBE penultimate year students with a confirmed eligibility to pursue a major or minor offered by FBE

Students will be selected through paper screening and group interviews conducted by representatives from Citi and HKU.

Successful applicants should possess the following attributes:

  • Good potential and eagerness to learn and develop with commitment to excel
  • Enthusiastic and ambitious in knowing more about the banking and finance field
  • Interested in considering banking and finance industry as one of their career choices

Deposit required:
The successful applicant who is offered a place to join this course will need to pay a deposit of HK$3,000. Upon successful attainment of at least 80% attendance rate (including all lectures, visits, assessments, presentations and the two ceremonies), this deposit will be refunded or be forfeited as a penalty of the student’s breach of commitment.
