To: BBA(Acc&Fin) students,

The Taxation Institute of Hong Kong - Tax Debate Competition 2023 is now open for applications. This is the Institute’s 7th Tax Debate Competition.

Competition Objectives

The Competition aims to promote the study of taxation and draw awareness of university students to the tax profession as another choice in their career development upon graduation. The Competition has been successful in encouraging students to express their opinions on current tax topics and attracting public attention when it was first held in 2015. The Panel of Judges included elites from business, tax practitioners, professional bodies and academics.

Competition Format

The Competition will be conducted in Cantonese. Each university will nominate 2 teams with 4 students in each team. The mode of the debate will be on a “knock-out” basis, with the Quarter-finals, Semi-finals and Champion Final taking place at Plaza Hollywood on June 3, 2023 (Saturday) and June 4, 2023 (Sunday) respectively. Preliminaries will be held from May 29 – June 2, 2023 if there are more than 8 participating teams. A briefing session will be conducted physically on March 31, 2023 (6:30 – 7:30 p.m.) to provide students with more information about the Competition. The tournament list will be decided by a draw conducted during the briefing session.
