HKU Business School Student Exchange Programme 2026-27
Pre-departure Information
Leave of Absence and Credit Transfer (Exchange Programme)

Online application details will be sent to all exchange students through email after Predeparture Briefing Session

*This section is NOT for short-term Winter/Summer credit transfer. For Winter/Summer credit transfer application, please refer to the section "Winter, Summer and Visiting Programme".

 

Deadlines:
Leave of absence:
1st semester - 31 July (application opens in mid Jun)
2nd semester - 31 December (application opens in Nov)
Note: If you have not yet finalised your course selection/credit transfer plan, please submit your application for leave of absence first. 

 

Credit Transfer:

Once you have completed your course registration and obtained the updated course outlines from the host institution.

Note:  Academic checking takes time. Submitting your application immediately after completing course registration provides a time window for students to drop any courses deemed not equivalent to specific HKU courses.

 

Credit Transfer Amendment - Add/Drop courses:
1st semester - 31 October
2nd semester - 31 March

Winter, Summer and Visiting Programme

Apart from exchange programmes, students can participate in fee-paying winter, summer and visiting programmes offered by overseas institutions. Students are required to handle application procedures and pay the tuition fee to the host institutions.

 

To transfer credits obtained from winter break, summer and visiting programme, students are required to submit a leave of absence approval letter issued by the Faculty (for regular semester visiting programme only), copy of the admission letter issued by the overseas university, respective credit transfer application form and the detailed course outlines to the School Office via online platform (for Winter and Summer programme only) or email (for visiting programme only) at least 1 month prior to your departure for winter,  summer and visiting programme.

  • Credit Transfer: Visiting Programme - Upon request, after you had received the leave of absence approval, please contact us via fbe.ugenrichment@hku.hk.
Scholarship for Semester Exchange

Eligible participants of exchange programmes will be automatically considered for the Scholarship for Semester Exchange. Please visit International Affairs Office for more information.

Credit Transfer Database [For Reference ONLY]

This database holds the course equivalence information of the successful credit transfer applications in the past. It is however for REFERENCE only, and does NOT warrant an approval of credit transfer.

 

You are welcome to transfer courses not covered under this database. As long as the courses are credit bearing, and are found to be compatible to the HKU courses (in terms of course contents, assessments, rubics, learning hours, etc.), you may consider putting in a credit transfer application.
