h

About the Programme:

“Doing Business in China” Programme aims to give an overview of doing business in China, including an introduction to the Chinese economy, history and culture. Through this programme, students can access to the high quality faculty and well-designed programme of lectures, case studies, company visits and cultural tour.

All participants enroll in a course at Peking University, which can be regarded as an elective course in HKU. Students who have successfully completed the course will have credits being transferred back.

Student's Sharing:

“Doing Business in China” (DBIC) Programme was a rewarding two-week enrichment programme offered to enable students to gain exposure in our motherland. Students were granted the opportunity to experience lifestyles in Beijing and subsequently in Xi’an. I was very grateful to have the opportunity to participate in DBIC in May 2018.

Throughout the Programme, professors from the Peking University analysed the current economy of China and elaborated on the “Belt and Road” initiatives. Complementing the enlightening intramural lectures, firm visits were specially designed for us to obtain hands-on experience about the manufacturing industry in China. What impressed me the most was the visit to NIO, a renowned automobile company in Beijing. Without the well-organised arrangement from the Faculty, it would not be possible to pay a visit to large-scale corporations, let alone learn about the application of artificial intelligence in future industrial development. In addition to the intellectual stimulation, we went on cultural tours to historic sites like the Forbidden City and Terra-Cotta Warriors. We were offered with an array of activities to appreciate ancient history and cultures. Above all, the networking session with students from Guanghua School of Management, Peking University allowed us to establish a close bonding with these scholars. They volunteered to be our tour guides during weekends and provided assistance to us without hesitation. Their generosity and hospitality were the major factors fostering our tight-knit bonding even after the completion of the Programme. Though we left, we would never be apart, maybe in distance, but never in heart.

DBIC equipped students with the key competencies for any future career development in China. It was a well blend of inspiration and fun. The insightful classes, amusing tours and amiable assistants all contributed to our personal, interpersonal and social growth. Once again, I would like to thank the Faculty of Business and Economics, The University of Hong Kong as well as Guanghua School of Management, Peking University for coordinating such an invaluable learning programme.
