About the Programme:

China Business and Economics Programme (CBE) is supported by the Ministry of Education of Mainland China. It is a 9-day/14-day credit-bearing study programme open to HKU Business School undergraduate students. The programme aims to enhance students’ understanding of China business and economy by providing first-hand experience through living and learning in Shanghai.

All participants enroll in a 6-credit HKU course. Aside from formal lectures at Fudan University, the programme includes site visits to leading enterprises of industries such as finance, tourism, manufacturing, IT and creative industries. There are also guest talks conducted by alumni, scholars and business leaders. Similar as other HKU courses, students are required to complete the course work as assigned by the lecturer, group presentations, individual term paper and examinations in order to receive a grade as well as credits.

Student's Sharing:

Knowledge and friendship - I believe these are some of what I gained the most out of the China Business and Economics Programme in the summer of 2018.

Shanghai is one of the most renowned business centres in China, and this Programme certainly gave us a great opportunity to explore this metropolis through a short stay there. Through a series of lectures, we grasped a holistic view of the development of the Chinese economy - from the trade and economic reforms to the internationalisation of renminbi – heated discussions and thorough studies were done to go through the potential hurdles and possible solutions of the current social and economic issues. The guest talks and site visits also offered us a chance to look at the challenges and strategies of doing businesses in the country from different perspectives.

City tour is one of the highlights during our stay in Shanghai. The city is outlined with an elegant blend of Chinese vintage and modern architectures, including Tianjifang, Shanghai Waitan, and Yu Garden. The skyline is absolutely stunning and unforgettable. We also tried lot of mouth-watering local cuisines – Xiaolongbaos and pan-fried buns are the signature Shanghainese food that we miss dearly after our return to Hong Kong

Above all, I am blessed to meet a group of nice peers throughout the Programme. My group mates and I shared a lot of fond memories: together we strolled around for food and fun, overcame the cultural shock, and rose to the challenges when working on our project. Meanwhile, I am grateful to our counterparts in Shanghai, who extended to us a warm welcome, took great care of us and helped us through difficulties we encountered as a stranger to the place.

A study programme as it named, but what lingers is way more than that.
