Who We Are:

HKU Trading Group is a premier finance club founded in 2020. Our goals are to provoke interest in Investment Banking and Markets and to enhance the investment acumen of our members who hope to pursue a career in the industries. In addition to providing competitions and training sessions, we publish regular fundamental and quantitative research reports, simulate 3 portfolios of various investment strategies, and provide exclusive networking opportunities and events with top financial institutions. We hope to expand our community and knowledge base by welcoming like-minded students in the future.

Who We Look For:

Portfolio Team:

1) Quant Strategy
• Data Stream: Acquire, clean and structure a database for backtesting
• Strategy Stream: Build algorithm strategies and backtesting models

2) Macro Strategy

• Identify market cycle, formulate trading strategies, and monitor portfolio performance

• Build algorithm strategies and backtesting models

Research Analyst:

1) Tech/Media/Telco ; 2) Consumer (CD/CS)

• Conduct sectoral research to provide investment recommendations

• Write investment recommendation reports of strong convictions

• Learn to build financial models, standardized charts, and dashboards

* The Industrial/Energy & Materials/EV teams are not recruiting in semester 2.

External Affairs Team Member:

• Assist in organising various events, including networking and outreach events, investment competitions, poker tournament and etc.

• Develop partnership and corporate relationship with external parties to foster long-term development of our group

General Member:

• Subscribe to our regular reports

Remarks:

• Quant Strategy candidates are expected to submit a 1-pager quant write-up (*1).

• Macro Strategy candidates are expected to submit a 1-pager macro write-up (*2).

• Research Analyst candidates are expected to submit a 1-pager stock pitch (*3).

• External Affairs Team candidates are expected to submit a 1-pager write-up (*4).

*1: Data stream candidates are expected to submit a description of data-related projects within 1 page, and strategy stream candidates are expected to submit a 1-pager quant trading strategy pitch.

* Noted that data stream candidates might be invited to coding test prior to the interview.

*2: You are required to write a 1-pager macroeconomic write-up for ONE of the following topics:

1. BOJ (Bank of Japan) Monetary Policy Shift
2. India Economy Growth
3. FED Rate Cut

Your write-up should include the following sections:
• Summary: Provide a concise overview of the chosen topic and its significance in the macroeconomic landscape.
• Event Description: Describe the specific event or policy shift related to the chosen topic. Present key details such as the context, rationale, and implications of the event.
• Analytics Process: Present your analytical approach by incorporating relevant evidence and data. Explain the methodology you used to analyze the chosen topic. Utilize economic indicators, financial market trends, or other relevant data sources to support your analysis.
• Insight and Implication: Discuss the potential implications of the chosen topic for relevant stakeholders, such as businesses, investors, or policymakers. Consider both the short-term and long-term effects of the event or policy shift.
• Portfolio Strategy: Propose a portfolio strategy that aligns with your analysis and insights. Outline investment or risk management recommendations considering the potential impact of the chosen topic on various asset classes or sectors. Provide a clear rationale for your strategy.

Feel free to include any or all of the suggested sections in your write-up, or design your own structure while covering the essential aspects mentioned above.

Your write-up should be well-structured, concise, and supported by logical reasoning and data.
