Earn Your EFFAS CESGA Certification – Enrol Now in FINA3385 Global Sustainable Investing and ESG Integration!
In today's rapidly changing world, sustainable investing and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations have become an integral part of the financial landscape. HKU Business School is delighted to introduce a new undergraduate course, FINA3385 Global Sustainable Investing and ESG Integration, in the first semester of the academic year 2023-2024. This course focuses on investments from the perspective of asset owners and asset managers, helping students understand how ESG is embedded in the investment process and valuation models, and how ESG impacts the risk and return of investments. Students will learn about sustainable investing across different asset classes and the various ESG reporting frameworks. The course will also prepare students to sit for the “Certified ESG Analyst” (CESGA) certification offered by the European Federation of Financial Analysts Societies (EFFAS). EFFAS CESGA Certification
The EFFAS CESGA programme is a pioneering initiative aimed at providing the necessary training for the efficient valuation, measurement and integration of ESG issues into investment analysis. Please refer to the EFFAS CESGA 3.1 Programme Brochure for more details.
The EFFAS has kindly offered HKU Business School students a special discounted rate of EURO 950 (compared to the standard rate of EURO 1,500) to sit for the online CESGA examination in December 2023 or March 2024. The CESGA December 2023 examination is now open for registration:

The CESGA Programme (Code: GTP-260223) has been approved as one of the Eligible Programmes under the Pilot Green and Sustainable Finance Capacity Building Support Scheme launched by the Hong Kong SAR Government in December 2022. Upon successful completion of the CESGA examination, full-time students may apply for claiming up to 100% of the relevant fee, subject to a ceiling of HK$10,000 and other conditions. Course Description
In this course, how environment, social, and governance (ESG) impacts on risk and return of investments and corporate financial performance will be explored. Different ESG investment approaches and strategies will be introduced and students will develop an understanding of ESG integration and how ESG will be embedded in the investment process and in valuation models. In addition, students will learn about sustainable investing across different asset classes and the various ESG Reporting frameworks. This course will prepare students to sit for the “Certified ESG Analyst (CESGA)” examination offered by EFFAS (The European Federation of Financial Analysts Societies).
Course Learning Outcomes
CLO1: Identify the main drivers and barriers of ESG investing and explain the positive correlations between ESG performance and financial performance.
CLO2: Differentiate different ESG investment strategies, discuss the global market developments with a focus on the Asia Pacific region, and list the differences between important ESG definitions.
CLO3: Validate different ESG considerations in different asset classes.
CLO4: Evaluate different ESG issues of corporates via case study.
CLO5: Demonstrate understanding of ESG Reporting and sources and applications of various data in the ESG Reporting.
CLO6: Identify the challenges of integrating ESG factors in the investment process.
