The application for The Taxation Institute of Hong Kong- Tax Debate Competition 2022 is now open. This is the Institute’s 7th Tax Debate Competition. In view of the current pandemic situation, the competition will be held online on May 28 - 29, 2022.
Competition Objectives
The aims of this Competition are to promote the study of taxation and draw awareness of university students to the tax profession as another choice in their career developments upon graduation. The Competition has been successful in encouraging students to express their opinions on current tax topics and attracting public attention when it was first held in 2015. The Panel of Judges included elites from business, tax practitioners, professional bodies and academics.
Competition Format
The Competition will be conducted in Cantonese. Each university will nominate 1 team of 4 students. The mode of the debate will be on a “knock-out” basis, with the Quarter-finals and Champion Final take place online on May 28, 2022 (Saturday) and May 29, 2022 (Sunday) respectively. Preliminaries will be held from May 23 – 27, 2022 if there are more than 8 participating teams. A briefing session will be conducted on March 25, 2022 to provide students with more information about the Competition. The tournament list will be decided by a draw conducted during the briefing session.
Prizes
Attractive prizes including waiver of CTA exam fees and cash prizes will be awarded to the winning teams. In addition, internships in reputable CPA firms will be awarded to the Champion team.
Eligibility
• BBA(Acc&Fin) students who have taken Taxation course in HKU
• Fluent in Cantonese
• Strong interest and commitment to participate in the Competition and MUST be available to attend the Competition online on May 28 - 29, 2022
• Students who have participated in this Competition before cannot participate again

The top 4 students will be selected to take part in this Competition on behalf of the HKU Business School. Students who do not hear from us by end of February can regard your application as unsuccessful.
