The Taxation Institute of Hong Kong will be organizing The Taxation Institute of Hong Kong- Tax Debate Competition 2017. This is the Institute’s 3rd Tax Debate Competition which will be held at Plaza Hollywood Kowloon during 27 -28 May 2017.

Competition Objectives
The objectives of this Competition are to promote the study of taxation and at the same time draw students’ awareness of the tax profession as another choice in their career developments upon graduation. The Competition has been successful in encouraging students to express their opinions on current tax topics and attracting public attention when it was first held in 2015. The Panel of Judges included elites from business, tax practitioners, professional bodies and academics.

Competition Format
The Competition will be conducted in Cantonese. Each university will nominate 1 team of 4 students. The mode of the debate will be on a “knock-out” basis with the Quarter-finals and Championship Final taking place at Plaza Hollywood on 27 May 2017 and 28 May 2017 respectively. Briefing session will be conducted in early March once all teams are selected wherein students will be given more information about the Competition in question. Tournament list will be decided by a draw conducted in the Briefing session.

Prizes
Attractive prizes including CTA exam fee waivers and cash prizes will be awarded to the winning teams together with offer of internships to members of the Champion team in reputable CPA firms including Big 4.

Eligibility
1.      BBA(Acc&Fin) students; and
2.      Strong interest and commitment to participate in the competition and MUST be available to attend the competition at Plaza Hollywood Kowloon on 27 – 28 May 2017.

Application Method
Interested students please apply online here. You are required to combine your university transcript and your one-page CV to ONE single file (including your cumulative GPA, experiences in open competitions and awards achieved, languages spoken, and internship experiences) and upload at the end of the online application. 

Interview Arrangement
Selection interviews will be arranged for shortlisted candidates by the end of February. The top 4 students will be selected to take part in this competition on behalf of our Faculty.
