Dear Students,

We are in the decade of urgent action toward a more sustainable planet and resilient society. Are you passionate about turning datasets into actionable insights that facilitate and foster environmental and social governance?

If your answer is YES, we have some exciting news for you. The Center for Business and Social Analytics (CBSA) of HKUST Business School is now accepting registrations for the CBSA-Wisers Analytics Challenge @HKUST 2022/23!

Organized by CBSA in collaboration with Wisers Information Limited, this annual competition aims to provide Hong Kong tertiary students with the opportunity to apply and hone their data analytics skills through a business or social impact challenge. The theme of this year’s challenge is Sustainable and Green Finance in Hong Kong.

Students are expected to work in teams to address a problem statement by uncovering patterns and insights from the competition data, which consists of:

  1. Text data related to climate risk and sustainability in Hong Kong – contain over 400,000 news articles and social media posts/comments
  2. GSF Data Source Repository – contains data sources for climate risk management and other GSF-related analysis and research

This challenge calls for your ability to pose meaningful questions, work collaboratively under pressure, and use the latest advances in natural language processing and other AI techniques to extract value from the data. In order to help teams better prepare for this year's analytics challenge, we have planned a series of webinars featuring leading experts in the fields of green finance and data science.
